Online Mentor Orientation: Access to an online volunteer mentor orientation used by over 11,000 Canadians – now Bilingual.

Thanks to our partners at the Alberta Mentoring Partnership, we have now launched a revised, bilingual, and adapted version of the Alberta Mentoring Partnership’s online mentor orientation. This orientation has been used by over 11,000 Canadians, and thanks to the generosity of the AMP, we will now be able to revise and share this training—fully bilingual.

The orientation has been used both as a pre-screening for potential volunteers as well as a supplementary pre-training prior to any in-person or program specific training.

To support organizations in providing quality, standardized training, CMP has developed an online training program for mentors. It is most beneficial if mentors participate in these trainings before they are matched. Additional in-person and/or program specific training may be required. These trainings provide a foundation of knowledge that you can build upon. The course introduces mentors to the core concepts of mentoring and what it means to be a mentor.

The program includes 5 modules and a quiz to test understanding:

  • The basics of mentoring;
  • The importance of mentoring;
  • The role of the mentor;
  • What kind of support you can expect from your mentoring program;
  • You will also be introduced to the dynamics of building a positive mentoring relationship.
