Mentor Canada is seeking a Project Lead to support our national initiative focused on mentorship as a catalyst for youth employment. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships & Initiatives, the Project Lead will oversee community engagement and participatory research efforts aimed at improving mentoring practices and increasing mentoring opportunities for youth ages 18 to 30 across the country.
This role involves stewarding relationships with a diverse range of partners—including community organizations, government agencies, post-secondary institutions, private sector and employers—while also conducting both primary and secondary research to develop innovative mentoring solutions, and resources within Canada’s youth employment ecosystem.
This is a remote role open to candidates anywhere in Canada. This is a full time, contract position until March 31, 2028 and includes base salary (starting at $65,000 per year and commensurate with experience), health and dental benefits, and annual leave entitlement. Occasional travel is required.
Key Responsibilities

Lead community-based participatory action research (CBPAR) activities including needs assessments, consultations, and peer-led research to identify mentoring needs, gaps, and solutions for youth employment.

Conduct secondary research such as environmental scans, stakeholder mapping, and ecosystem analysis to inform project strategy and design.

Coordinate project activities including a pay-for-performance pilot, annual workshops, new evidence-informed tools, and other multi-stakeholder initiatives.

Support knowledge mobilization efforts by organizing events, developing tools and resources, and facilitating the dissemination of findings and best practices.

Engage and manage relationships with diverse partners across sectors including community organizations, government, post-secondary institutions, and private sector employers.

Contribute to reporting and evaluation of project outcomes, ensuring alignment with funder requirements and strategic goals.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities

Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree (preferred) in a relevant discipline from an accredited university or post-secondary institution.

3 to 5 years of experience in the mentoring field, workforce development, and/or community-based, participatory action research. Experience working on government funded projects is a strong asset.

Knowledge of effective mentoring practices and/or career coaching for youth (ages 18 to 30) is essential. Understanding of and experience in the youth development and the youth employment ecosystem in Canada is a strong asset.

Ability to conduct primary and secondary research and develop research-informed solutions for mentoring programs.

Strong project management skills with the ability to lead complex initiatives with multiple partners.

Strong understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles and practices. Commitment to promoting inclusion, intersectionality and diversity in mentoring practices. GBA+ training is an asset.

Ability to work in French and English is a strong asset.
